Action-Filled Fun

Shades of El Chapo--the real-life Mexican cartel leader! Much of Wallace's novel could be snatched directly from today's headlines.
The book is an action-packed adventure involving the search for El Posolero (Think of the Mexican dish posole), so named because he likes to murder his enemies, dispose of their flesh, and send the bones to their families. El Posolero will stop at nothing to gain control of drug trafficking in Baja California. But he doesn't reckon with the likes of continuing series characters Ted Higuera, Cat Flaherty, Chris, et al.
A sub-plot deals with a ruthless partner in Chris' father's law firm trying to oust Harry's wife and son from the firm after the father's death.
Wallace's plot grabs the reader's attention and holds it from the first page to the last. It's a fun read, filled with manly men and gorgeous women and lots of gun fights.
I must say I'm glad Penn Wallace gave me an advanced reading copy in trade for an honest review. I certainly enjoyed the book and am sure you will too.

Manny Olivera & Gloria (wife) were headed to the Marina Palmira to La Paz, to eat at the El Molino restaurant.They were ambushed & Manny’s driver was shot/killed.
Chris Hardwick (skipper) entered his Courageous (Chesapeake 43yacht), in the Swiftsure yacht race (Neah Bay).
Later Harry Hardwick (Chris’s dad, attorney, WWII USMC vet) had passed out. CPR was administered & he was air-medvac to the Harbor View Hospital.
Santiago “El Pozolero” Rodriquez (drug lord, Baja Cartel) was being housed at the Altiplano maximum security Federal Prison (Mexico City, Mexico).
Dr. Potter was there to greet Chris, Candace “Candy” Hardwick (2nd. wife, Hardwick, Bernstein & Johnson paralegal, U of Idaho) & Ted Higuera (Chris’ BMF, PI, hacker, FB, U of Washington; CS).
Not the news the 3 of them expected.
Delores Olivera (brewing co., convenience stores chain owner) went to see General Ricardo Lazaro (Federales) about her kidnapped son Manny Olivera (son).
The secretary informed them a huge ransom note had just been delivered.
Delores later received a bloody box at her Lomas de Chapultepec house.
After dinner Ted proposed to Dr. Maria Gonzales (curator, professor U of Washington, professional dancer).
She informed him she would have to think about it.
Reverend Waterson presided over the memorial service for Harry. It was held at the First Presbyterian Church.
At Jose O’Doul’s bar, someone left in quite a hurry.
Comandante Emiliano Infante came to investigate the mass shootings.
Esteban (Sinaloa Cartel leader), Gil, & Diego bodies lay in a bloody heap.
Later Maria house was in total shambles & she was missing.
Ted called Tom & told him the horrible news.
El Pozolero met with Maria.
Carlito “Carlos” Higuera (Hope’s brother) was arrested for the murder of Tony Sanchez & José Perez.
Chris Hardwick (attorney) asked if he could see his client Carlos.
Will Ted find Maria?

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written adventure book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great adventure movie, or better yet a mini TV series). To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

Great book... Highly recommended to all Mystery, Thriller & Suspense readers. Penn Wallace is on top off his game amd getting better with every novel. Great twists and turns... great storyline... excellent.
Super story. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Once I saw the cover, I had to take the plunge. Glad I did. Story was exciting and the characters are very unique. Keep up the great writing and please continue on with these characters. I have to see what happens next.....
I liked this book. I've always read books that had mystery, violence, thrillers. This book was liking to a good movie more than one thing was happening at a time. The cartels, the business relationship between Candace and Chris. I voluntarily reviewed an advance of this book.
I'm not sure the cartel was striking back because it seemed like all drug dealers were striking at each other. There were dead bodies falling everywhere. There was also romance, business, crooked cops, hard hearted lawyers & decent people with conflicted ethics. In fact there may have been too many characters doing too many things to keep track of every one all the way through the plot.
Cartels are a Horror to all countries! They bring drugs to the USA and ruin many lives with addictions . But in Mexico They are a GOD send, as it provides work, good and protection for many of its poor people .Yet them that lead the cartels are feared with good causethey. Kill all who get in their way. This take willgive you a look at botith sides and is a thrilling can't put it down read I Recommend!!
This is only the second book of Penn Wallace's I have read. Although obviously read out of order, this did not hinder my enjoyment at all nor did it hamper my following the story line as any necessary background was included. Best friends (brothers) Ted and Chris, though of vastly different beginnings and social strata, go from one adventure to another - this one instigated by Ted's girlfriend's family problems and a prior trip to Mexico. Definitely enjoyable reading, a great twist ending and if you're not familiar with this author a MUST READ to add to your list of authors to not miss.
By now the characters in this series of books are well established which makes reading his books a pleasure. Once again the story plots all intertwine and Ted, Chris, Hope, Catrina....all end up back in Mexico with another run-in with the Mexican Cartel trying to take over Ted's girlfriend's family business which involves selling pot in addition to the produce they import into the USA. More bodies are turning up as the plot develops and makes for a riveting read. In the end Ted loses his girlfriend, his sister Hope is seriously shot, and Catrina falls off the wagon. Ted and Catrina have settled into a groove as business partners. Chris and his stepmom are contemplating leaving the law firm his dad created due to the partners wanting them out after Chris's dad died. Just a lot of good story lines all working together to intertwine these beloved characters once again.
