Anchorage, Alaska gateway to serene wilderness of The Last Frontier. No stranger to struggle, the city on the edge of the world is about to become even more isolated.
When a plague strikes, Anchorage becomes a deadly trap for its citizens. The only two land routes out of the city are cut, forcing people to fight or die as the infection spreads. Danny and Jules, just children, witness the beginning stages of the pestilence. Neil watches helplessly from his office cubicle as Midtown is ravaged. Dr. Caldwell attempts to flee the madness of Providence Hospital, the epicenter of the outbreak. The lives and survival of these few become intertwined in the aftermath of the onslaught. Coming together as strangers, they begin to form stronger bonds--even as hope slips away and they realize there may be no rescue coming.

2 stars for now. May update that later. The story starts out with Martin and HIS family drivIng to their cabin and Martin was excited because he got to bring A friend with him to Alaska, it was Danny's first trip to Alaska...then it segues into a description of Danny's family and as it describes his sister Jukie/Jules poof suddenly Jules is with them and they are running to Martin's favorite place to play at the cabin, a glacier (Let's not even get into what kind of parent let's their kids play on a glacier? As they have tendencies to shift quite often and make pockets that can be miles deep with thin ice over them that you can fall into and die) at the glacier they smell something gross, they track it to (surprise) a body frozen in the ice it's upper torso exposed, it's hands and part of it"s lower arms buried/frozen in the ice, and they are going to go tell mom and dad but lets not tell Alex, Danny's older brother....whoa wait a minute when did Alex suddenly materialize on Martin's family's trip to Alaska? Then Danny a 10 year old stands next to the torso for a picture, proof for posterity, so Martin, also 10 presumably, has to stand for photo of his own and suddenly the dead body bites him, on the shoulder, what? Your average 10 year old can ride the rides at theme parks which require a mandatory 53- 54 inch height that is 4 feet 4/5 nches, this body would have to be one tall mother effer to have at east 4 feet of body above ground to bite this kid on the shoulder. Then they are no longer going to get Martin's parents who seem to have disappeared, but Danny and Jules' parents...I haven't even finished the first chapter and I already don't know who is in Alaska with Martin and who is not...these are glaring errors, they should have been caught by an English major and by the Editor!Product details

Infection Alaskan Undead Apocalypse (Audible Audio Edition) Sean Schubert Daniel May Audible Studios Books Reviews
Like to know what happens to folks in Alaska during the ZA? This book will get you started. I liked the plot and the characters. Many different kinds of people (and not a single one a super preper or former Special Forces person) who all cope with the beginning of the crisis in different ways. There are a few minor grammar errors but none took away from the story line or broke the cycle for me. Great job!
Infection is a horrifying picture of Anchorage, Alaska under attack by its infected citizens. Vividly described in frightening detail, the populace, in less than 24 hours, is transformed into a community of walking dead. Seeking more victims to satisfy their voracious appetite for new blood, they overrun the entire city. The story details over the following days the efforts of two small groups to merely survive. In the process, relationships are born and nurtured, the best and worst in people facing a crisis is evidenced and heroism to save others is exhibited. Through it all, the human spirit to endure against overwhelming odds is the focus of the book. A horror story and thriller, the book, once started, is difficult to put down and once finished creates a desire to see what will occur next.
***Not a friend or family member***
Sorry I try to put that on any 5 star rating I give, simply because I see soo many people who dislike a book. So they claim the 5 star reviews are friends, and family or bogus. I am none of those!
I genuinely enjoyed this book, I tend to tread lightly when reading any zombie fiction. Because you often get your hopes up for a good read, and then get let down. This was not one of those times. I read this book in a remarkably fast time, considering I only read on smoke breaks and before bed. lol
At first I wasn't sure I would like it because it started out with kids, I didn't realize when I purchased it that they were YOUNG kids. But thankfully *without spoiling anything* I was not disappointed by their part in the book. I love when a writer gives different viewpoints, and goes back and forth between groups. This book didn't stay too long on one group, versus the other group. It was simply a great read, and I highly recommend it. I recently bought about 5 new zombie books, and I am sorry that I didn't purchase the rest in this series instead of the others. Because I am chomping at the bit to know what else is going to happen!!!
First off, I really don't think it was that fast paced. Much of the story is spent with a group of survivors hiding in a single house. Two groups eventually find each other, then their sanctuary gets overrun, as does in most zombie novels. The story isn't that original when compared to the 1000s of others in the genre.
Second, while it takes place in Anchorage Alaska, there isn't much to differentiate the setting from any other place in the country. It just doesn't have that Alaska 'feel' to the story, as some stories do when set in another part of the country. IE some novels set in Texas have that 'Texas feel', likewise if set in NYC, LA, San Fran, etc. You can simply exchange the names and places in this story for any other city in the nation, and it would progress without a hitch.
Third, I agree with another reader in that there is VERY, VERY little character description. Outside of 2-3 of the main protagonists, the other 5-6 characters are left with little more then a name to describe them. For example, Tony was a large framed Asian gay man.....you learned he was gay when first meeting him....and had a hint to his relative size (although being refereed to as the 'big guy' wasn't that descriptive). Yet you had NO IDEA he was asian until the very end of the book, literally around the 95% mark (on kindle).
There also wasn't enough detail on the weapons used. I'm one who likes to know just what they're actually shooting, so you get an idea of what they have to work with. Most every weapon used was referred to a simply 'the scoped hunting rifle'....'the shiny black pistol'.....or 'the shotgun'. It just left a hole in the overal story.
All that being said, it was still a solid read, and I just ordered the second installment. My hopes are highers for that one, as reviewers have said it's superior then its predecessor. It's not a bad book, better then most, but still well into the middle of the zombie genre.
